We've talked about it before, we'll talk about it again: the Kanye / Drake musical war has gone through a couple more major battles... Who's on top? We'll tell you...

Every generation has its musical feuds, the older among us remembering that infamous 2Pac / Notorious B.I.G. battle for one, which obviously ended with both superstars being shot dead… Time will tell if the 2020’s end up reaching the same amount of violence — hopefully not. In any event, our era comes with an interesting Kanye West / Drake war, mostly for the better. Indeed, the pair keep on upping one another for our ultimate sonic enjoyment. The most recent series of events includes:

  • Kanye West igniting a lengthy pre-release promotional machine for his long-awaited and much-delayed 10th studio album Donda.  That entailed several stadium-sized listening parties, a bunch of enigmatic posts on social media, and finally a surprise release on August 29th, which the artist said he did not apparently approve of. More on that later, we assume: the man has been known to tinker with projects, even after they are out…
  • Drake seeming to diss Kanye in a featuring for Trippie Redd‘s “Betrayal”, which includes the following lines: “45, 44 (burned out), let it go / Ye ain’t changin’ shit for me, it’s set in stone”. Pretty straightforward, if you ask us.
  • Kanye actually posting Drake’s home address online in retaliation, just long enough for anyone to take note. Proof that global superstars can also be petty as f*ck on occasion. Especially Mr. West.
  • Drake surprise-releasing his own long-awaited 6th studio album, Certified Lover Boy, last Friday, i.e. 5 days after Donda. Arguably, this release actually was more of a surprise, insofar as there were no listening parties and tentative release dates floating around and being repeatedly blown past…
  • Kanye reaching the top of the Billboard 200 chart for the 10th consecutive time in his career, the 7th artist to ever achieve that (with The Beatles reaching 19, in case you wanna know how far one can go with this). This coming as somewhat of a no-brainer after the artist previously beat Apple Music’s all-time single day streaming record on its way there…
  • Drake beating Kanye’s 48h-old Apple Music streaming record with Certified Lover Boy… as well as beating Apple Music’s all-time single day song streaming record three times in a row, with three different tracks from said album!

Incredibly, Drake also stands to tie Kanye’s Billboard record come next week. Your move, Kanye…
